A one day, unique Course focussed on the most ancient and mellifluous of tonics. Chris Park, expert skep maker and natural beekeeper, is a seasoned mead maker and connoisseur. We will be visiting his home apiary, collecting water from a nearby spring and foraging for herbs and other botanicals to add flavours and beneficial properties to your mead. You will learn how to make mead using wild yeasts, the aromas and flavour profiles of honey, and a wealth of tips and tricks to make a beverage that suits your taste. We will taste honey and mead, and talk at length about the preparation and use of mead, present and past, here and far.

You will need to bring an empty and sterilised 1 gallon demijohn with bung and airlock. You will take away a demijohn full of mead in the making that you will finish fermenting and maturing at home.

You will also need to bring protective clothing for visiting the apiary - either a beekeeping suit or a beekeeping veil and jacket paired with jeans and boots.

The Course runs from 10am to 4pm at Chris' home near Watchfield in Oxfordshire. Please bring your own lunch.

Funds raised from our training Courses support Bees for Development’s international development work.

You can listen to Chris communing with his mead in this great podcast:

You should receive a Booking Confirmation email with further details about the Course within 2-3 working days of placing your booking. Please get in touch with bfdoffice@beesfordevelopment.org if you don't. You may also want to check your spam/junk folder.
